RMPT DAY 5
May 13, 2022
Day 5 of senior project! I have already learned so much at the end of this week! Today I got into work around 9 and saw a few of the same patients from this week. Along with working with them, I was able to see some new patients well. I was able to put some gloves on today and feel where the tightness was in one of my patient's knees that had been reconstructed. With the help of Diane, she was able to use massage and the Graston technique to release tightness in his hamstring and calf muscles. After a few mins, his hamstring was so much more relaxed. I was also able to observe cupping on a patient who had hip and knee surgery. I was able to see where the cups were placed and how her body reacted to the cupping based off of her condition. In sports medicine class this spring we learned a lot about Qi and whether or not you have good Qi based off of the coloration of the skin from the cupping technique. Since there was a lot of scar tissue in my patient, she did not have good Qi. Since a lot of the patients that come in are older of age, I have realized that many patients that have come in so far, have complained of multiple injuries that had not been addressed until it really started to bother them. I had a conversation with Diane about how many people have been coming in complaining of pain but they have noticed it since about 5-6 years ago and didn't think it was worth coming into PT. It was right there and then when I realized just how important it was to realize if there is something wrong, call your doctor or your physical therapist. Most people use the excuse 'old age' but in reality, it doesn't have anything to do with your age because someone can always help.
I have also been able to connect with patients and learn about them and their families. The Ragged Mountain Physical Therapy has been a very welcoming place and everyone who works there takes care of their patients with love and support.
I am hoping next week to start making my project more visual and planning out how I want to present my project!
